About

I’m D.C. Marino — a strategist, coach, and lifelong believer in the power of change that sticks. For more than 25 years, I’ve helped people and businesses move from confusion to clarity, from burnout to alignment, and from good intentions to real transformation.
My work blends psychology, systems design, and self-awareness — because lasting change requires both inner insight and outer structure. I don’t “fix” people or companies; I help them see what’s been holding them back, reconnect to what actually drives them, and build the tools to move forward with purpose.
Whether I’m coaching an individual looking for direction or a business redesigning how its team works, my approach is the same: honest, practical, and deeply human. Growth isn’t about perfection — it’s about ownership. And once you own your choices, your patterns, and your story, you unlock your ability to evolve.
You’re the Shift is built on that belief. Change doesn’t happen to you — it happens through you.
Clients often say sessions feel like brainstorming your dream vacation… with a stand-up comic… at a meditation retreat. It’s a vibe — and it works.

Why Coaching Over Therapy?
Therapy often looks to the past — unpacking trauma, childhood patterns, or long-standing mental health concerns.
Coaching is forward-focused.
It’s about where you are now, where you
want to go, and how to get there with clarity, purpose, and momentum.
If you're ready to move forward — even from a hard place — coaching meets you right there.
1. Coaching Focuses on Your Present and Future
Breakups, burnout, job loss, identity shifts — these are real crises.
But not every crisis requires clinical treatment.
Sometimes what you need is clear thinking, compassionate support, and a plan — not a diagnosis.
Coaching offers stability and direction during uncertain seasons, helping you take back control and rebuild with purpose.
2. Coaching Supports You Through Life Transitions and Emotional Crisis
Therapy often helps you explore “why.”
Coaching focuses on “what now?”
If you’re done circling the same issue and ready for a different kind of conversation — one that leads to movement — coaching helps you take practical steps toward change.
We don’t just talk. We make things happen.
3. Coaching is Action-Oriented
There’s no clinical label here. No medical file. No judgment.
Coaching starts with the belief that you are capable, creative, and resourceful — even when you’re overwhelmed.
We don’t see you as broken. We see you as someone ready to grow.
4. Coaching Doesn’t Diagnose — It Empowers
Therapy is often a space to heal and be held.
Coaching is a space to be seen, challenged, and called forward.
You’ll be asked bold questions. You’ll be held accountable. You’ll be supported — but also pushed. And that’s exactly what many people need in times of transition.
5. Coaching Challenges and Supports at the Same Time
Coaching is more than a conversation — it’s a partnership built around your growth.
-
No diagnosis or insurance paperwork
-
Sessions structured around your goals, your pace
-
Tools, insights, and frameworks you can use in real life
-
Support when you feel stuck, and strategy when you’re ready to move
6. Coaching is Practical, Flexible, and Results-Driven
Coaching is not a replacement for therapy in situations involving:
-
Suicidal thoughts or self-harm
-
Clinical depression, anxiety, or PTSD
-
Addiction or substance abuse
-
Unprocessed trauma requiring deep healing
If those are part of your experience, therapy may be a better first step — and I’m happy to help connect you to the right resources.
What Coaching Is Not
Coaching isn’t a substitute for therapy.
If you’re experiencing suicidal thoughts, clinical depression, trauma symptoms, addiction, or any serious mental health concerns, therapy is the safer and more appropriate first step.
As a coach, I honor those boundaries — and I’m happy to refer you to trusted professionals when needed.
When Therapy May Be the Better Fit
Because sometimes you just need:
-
A clear plan
-
A thinking partner
-
A bold listener
-
Someone who believes in you — even when you’re doubting yourself
If you’re ready to move forward, even from a hard place, coaching isn’t just an option — it might be your turning point.

Testimonials

"I came in feeling stuck after a breakup, thinking I needed someone to fix me. DC didn’t try to fix me — he helped me understand myself. Our sessions felt like therapy meets life planning meets a comedy show, and somehow, I left every one with more clarity, more direction, and fewer excuses. I’ve never felt more grounded in who I am — or more excited about where I’m going."
Briana Mancini, MI
"Working with DC is like plugging your brain into a clean, clear operating system. He’s helped me untangle messy decisions, reconnect with my purpose at work, and build systems that actually support the way I work — not how I think I’m supposed to. His coaching is sharp, soulful, and full of real-world tools. It's like having a strategic advisor, therapist, and brutally honest friend in one."
Donnie Rodriguez, CA
"I’ve worked with a lot of coaches who didn’t really get how my brain works. DC got it instantly. As someone who’s also neurodivergent, he doesn’t just accommodate difference — he celebrates it. Together, we created routines and systems that fit me instead of trying to fit me into something broken. I finally feel capable again. And honestly? Seen."
Micah Dixon, MI
